Dine in the magical 'Tent of Mirrors' at Bard

(The Spiegeltent is back at Bard College for the third year)

If you're a fan of the arts and are looking for a unique dining experience, head to Bard College in Annandale this summer for the annual Summerscape and feast your eyes, and taste buds, on a cultural bonanza.

(The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard is an architectural wonder)

Now through Aug. 17, Summescape features an array of music, dance, theater and family programs, showcasing "Sergey Prokofiev amd his World," a focus on a single composer's work through concerts, talks and other programs.
My husband and I had a great experience Sunday attending the world premiere of the ballet "Romeo and Juliet, On Motifs of Shakespeare" performed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and the American Symphony Orchestra at the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center.

(Dine in the Spiegeltent or outside on the grounds before or after a show)

And right across the meadow from this glorious piece of architecture is the Spiegeltent, a Belgian "Tent of Mirrors" that is a marvel of carved wooden surfaces, parquet floors, stained glass and beveled mirrors that will make you feel transported to a Marlene Dietrich-style cabaret scene.

(There are ample dining options on the beautiful grounds at Bard College)

There is a host of programming scheduled for the Spiegeltent in addition to the concerts and forums at the Fischer Center.

(Order lunch from the outside tent at the Spiegeltent)

The fun part is you can dine in the Spiegeltent or picnic outside on the grounds.

Wines from Millbrook Vineyards and Winery, Magic Hat beer and Currant C juices are featured along with a menu that will satisfy vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
I have my eye on the Homemade Falafel with Grilled Pita & Yogurt Dressing and the Spiegel Asian Festival Salad the next time I go. Check out the complete menu here.

Those of us who live in the Hudson Valley are fortunate to have such artistic resources right in our own backyard.

Treat yourself and the family to a taste of culture that could be a highlight of your summer.

  2. The valley runs through me as well, Maryann. Summerscape at Bard is a wonderful experience; there is so much going on in the arts here, I love it, too. ;-)
